If you're looking at tallow for eczema, you've probably already tried a lot. Steroid creams, thick pharmacy moisturisers, "gentle" lotions that sting the moment they touch your skin. So it's fair to ask: does tallow actually help?
The honest answer
Tallow is not a cure for eczema, and nobody should tell you it is. Eczema is a medical condition, and your doctor should be part of the picture. What tallow can do is moisturise, and for eczema-prone skin, good moisturising matters a lot.
Why do people with eczema try tallow?
Dry, cracked skin is where flare-ups tend to get worse. A rich, simple moisturiser helps lock in moisture and protect the surface of the skin while it recovers.
Tallow is naturally similar in composition to the sebum your skin produces, which is why many people find it sits comfortably on skin that reacts to everything else. It also contains fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K, and stearic and oleic acids that support the skin's protective barrier.
Then there's what's not in it. Most commercial moisturisers contain water, preservatives, emulsifiers and fragrance, and any of those can irritate sensitive skin. Tallow doesn't need them.
What's in Tallow Farm cream?
Our hero Unscented Tallow Cream is made with grass-fed tallow, shea butter and jojoba oil. No water, no preservatives, no emulsifiers, no fragrance. Nothing you can't pronounce.
Why we made it
Tallow Farm started because my daughter's skin reacted to every product we tried. We stripped everything back to the simplest ingredients we could, and she finally stopped reacting. That's where this cream came from.
What can you realistically expect?
Many customers tell us their skin feels calmer, softer and less tight. Results vary from person to person, and tallow won't replace medical treatment.
- Patch test first. Try a small area before using it more widely.
- Apply to slightly damp skin, straight after washing, to help seal in moisture.
- Start with a small amount. A little goes a long way.
- Stop using it if irritation occurs.
- If your eczema is severe, weeping or looks infected, see your doctor.
So, does it actually help?
For many people with dry, sensitive, eczema-prone skin, a simple tallow moisturiser is worth trying. It's not magic and it's not medicine, but sometimes simple is exactly what reactive skin needs.
