WHAT IS TALLOW

Why Tallow Is a Great Moisturiser for Sensitive Skin (And What's Actually In Ours)

If you've got sensitive skin, or a kid who reacts to everything, you already know the drill. You try something new, it seems fine, then a few days later the redness starts. Or the itch. So you read the label and find a list of 30 ingredients you can't pronounce, and you're no closer to knowing what caused it.

That's exactly why Tallow Farm exists. And it starts with what we put in, and what we leave out.

What Is Tallow?

Tallow is rendered beef fat. That probably sounds strange if you've only ever used store-bought moisturisers. But tallow has been used on skin for thousands of years, long before the cosmetics industry existed. It fell out of fashion when cheap synthetic alternatives took over.

The reason tallow works so well on skin is simple: its fatty acid profile is very similar to the fats found in human skin. Stearic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid: your skin already knows what to do with these. It absorbs quickly, sits in the skin rather than on top of it, and doesn't interfere with your skin's natural barrier.

Why Most Moisturisers Fail Sensitive Skin

Walk into any chemist and pick up a moisturiser. Turn it over. You'll find water, emulsifiers to hold the water and oil together, preservatives to stop it going off, fragrance, thickeners and stabilisers.

Every one of those extras is a potential trigger for sensitive skin. Fragrance is one of the most common causes of skin reactions, and preservatives and emulsifiers irritate many people.

Tallow cream doesn't need any of it. No water means no preservatives and no synthetic emulsifiers. The fat is naturally stable.

What's In Tallow Farm Cream

Three ingredients. That's it.

Grass-fed beef tallow: the base. Rendered from Australian cattle and purified. It moisturises, protects and absorbs without feeling greasy.

Shea butter: adds extra softness and a light, non-greasy feel. Rich in fatty acids.

Jojoba oil: technically a wax ester, not an oil, which means it closely mimics the skin's own sebum. Helps with absorption and adds a smooth finish.

Our scented range (lavender, vanilla and lemongrass) is infused with real botanicals. No essential oils and no synthetic fragrance.

Does It Smell Like Beef?

No. This is the question we get most often, and it's fair. Poorly rendered tallow does smell. Ours doesn't. Our unscented range has only a faint, buttery note from the shea butter, and our scented range smells of the real botanicals infused into it, softer and more natural than a perfumed product.

A Note on Texture

Natural tallow can feel slightly grainy when it warms and cools. That's a normal property of real tallow, and it melts straight back to smooth in your hands.

Who It's For

Tallow Farm cream is for anyone who's tired of long ingredient lists. It's popular with people who have dry or sensitive skin, and with parents looking for something simple for the whole family.

It's not a miracle cure. But it is simple, skin-compatible and made with ingredients you can read.
